Feeling trapped in their dead end, one-person kitchen especially when entertaining; this Bloomington couple decided it was time to remodel to breakout their kitchen into an open concept. Our AMEK Design + Build team took on the floor plan challenges – odd-shaped perimeter walls, request for a full-size fridge and beverage cooler, desired island with seating for four, and improved storage capacity – to create a remarkable space to interact with their family and engage with guests.
"Magic Trick" Solutions to Odd-shaped Walls
Taking down the walls circling the kitchen to create an open concept was the easy part. Incorporating several notches in the exterior walls to form a functional floor plan was challenging. After testing out various appliance locations and counter depths, our design team delivered creative “magic trick” solutions to realign the kitchen and seamlessly optimize the odd-shaped space.
Premiere finishes include crisp white cabinetry, striking black hardware and light fixtures, quartz countertops, marble backsplash, and wide-plank French oak flooring. Favorite client elements are the custom cabinetry that provides thoughtful storage plus the sweet beverage bar. They are also feeling that daily life plus entertaining for guests are so much more enjoyable with a wide open functional space – indeed a breakout success!
